Here is an example of ‘cooking in the moment’. I was making my grandmas barbecued meatballs and I decided to add a little Asian flare. So I followed the recipe and added some of my own ingredients. I served it with a twist on sushi rice. My family loved it and I loved using my grandmas recipe.

Meatballs
1 1/2 pounds burger
3/4 oatmeal
1 C milk
1/4 Finely chopped onion
Salt and Pepper
–Add ins-
Zest of orange and juice
1/2 C Finely chopped red pepper
Mix and form into balls. Brown in a small amount of fat. Place in casserole.
Sauce
6 T Brown Sugar
3 T Worstertershire
1 3/4 C Ketchup
1/2 C Water
3-4 T Vinegar
1/4 C Chopped green onion
–Add ins-
3-4 T Soy Sauce
1/4 C Orange Juice
Combine sauce ingredients. Pour over meatballs. Bake at 350 for 1 hour. 8 Servings.
Twist Sushi rice
3 C Sushi rice
5 C water
5 T Soy Sauce
2 T Butter
2 T Sesame oil
I started by rinsing off the rice. Then put the rice in a casserole dish and covered with the rest of ingredients. I put in the oven with the meatballs and forgot about the both of them and went and helped my husband outside. Then about 1 hour and 15 minutes later I popped some frozen vegetables in a pot and dinner was served. Easy.
